What are Permanent Cosmetics?

Permanent cosmetics also referred to as Microblading, Ombre’ Powder Brows, Lip Blush, Permanent Eyeliner, SMP/ Scalp Micropigmentation, 3D brows, stretchmark camouflage, scar camouflage, and 3D Areola tattoos. It is

a specialized skill utilizing a variety of techniques to apply pigment into the epidermis layer of the skin. It is different than traditional body art tattooing, which implants pigment deeper into the dermis layer of the skin and uses tattoo ink designed to maintain their color forever. Cosmetic tattooing pigments are designed to fade gently over time and will exfoliate out due to the fact they are made up of much larger particles and are implanted much shallower in the skin on our face which is constantly renewing itself. It is often referred to as being Semi-Permanent as the pigment does fade over time but technically it is permanent as no one can claim that it will fade completely.

WHAT TO EXPECT

It is important that you understand the process and what to expect from your cosmetic tattooing experience. Here you will find a detailed description of how to prepare yourself before the appointment, what is involved during the procedure and how to care for your cosmetic tattoo after. Please read this information so you can plan accordingly. This is a two-part process. The final result is achieved over 2 appointments. After your first appointment, a follow up appointment is required 6-8 weeks (8-12 weeks for some clients with certain health ailments) later to touch up and perfect the procedure area.

Microblading

Microblading is done with a very small, fine micro sized blade, which is used to create fine hair like strokes/cuts into the skin, which gives the illusion of real hair strokes. This procedure is used to  correct and/or improve the appearance of a more natural looking brow. We believe this procedure is ideal for those who have natural brows that are experiencing missing and or sparse hairs. The results are extremely natural looking and last anywhere from 1-1.5 years.  This procedure is NOT an ideal choice for any clients with oily skin.

Ombre Powder Brows

Microshading, also referred to as “Ombre’ Powder Brows” is the most common brow procedure. It’s 100% customizable and is perfect for those who want a soft and natural look. This method creates pixelated dots to mimic powder filled brows with no harsh front or harsh outline. This powdered shadowing technique is minimally invasive, long lasting, and can be customized as bold or as natural as you desire. Powder Brows help clients achieve more of a powdered or Ombre’ look instead of hair strokes. Powdered brows have a soft makeup look and work great for clients with oily or mature skin. This is the latest technique in semi-permanent eyebrows and is offered as an advanced technique.

Lip Blushing

Lip Blushing, also known as Lip Pigmentation, is a form of semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo that enhances the lips' natural tint and shape, giving them a natural boost and a glossy feel. Lip Blushing can also be used to give the appearance of a more well defined, symmetrical lip shape. This technique is created by using a Permanent Make-Up handheld tool and It's designed to define and outline your lips, not to necessarily make them fuller, but to give the illusion of a fuller lip, but in a very natural way. This service is 100% customizable so that each client can achieve their desired results without compromise.

Annual Refresh

An annual touch-up is optional and can be done anywhere between 1 - 3 years after your initial procedure. You can expect your brow, eyeliner or lip tattoo last anywhere from 1.5 -3 years depending on the area and technique used. Color retention will vary between individuals and is affected by a person’s lifestyle, skin type, medications, sun exposure, and the use of certain skin care products, age, smoking, frequency of exercising and metabolism.

  • Is Cosmetic Tattooing Suitable for Everyone?
Not always! If you have extremely oily skin, a microblading technique may not work well for you. The constant production of oil in your skin will cause the hair strokes to heal with a migrated/ blurred look, so strokes are not as crisp looking. In this case an "Ombre' Powdered Brow" technique may be better suited for you. If you are a very active person who works out a lot, you may also be better suited for an Ombre' Powder Brow. The reason being is that the salt naturally produced during sweating can cause premature fading . Medical conditions and medications can also determine your suitability. If you are taking blood thinners, you will be required to stop taking these and seek Doctor's approval if prescribed prior to booking service.
  • Does this procedure hurt
We use a topical anesthetic to numb your skin during the procedure, so discomfort is very minimal. Anesthetic is reapplied as needed throughout the procedure so your experience is as comfortable as possible. Most of our clients only feel the very fist pass, which takes about 3-4 minutes per brow. A topical numbing anesthetic is applied immediately after first pass, and brows are completely numbed throughout the remainder of the procedure.
  • Will all of my brow hair be removed?
Absolutely not! We try to retain as much of your natural hair as possible and work to enhance your natural features. Only brow hairs that are outside the perimeters of the brow design will be removed. The goal is to create the most natural and realistic brows as possible, and your natural brow hairs help aid in this process.
  • What is the down time?
None! You can leave the salon after the procedure and carry on as normal. Some redness may be present for an hour or so after procedure. Lips may cause some swelling, but this subsides after 24 hours. If you have an important event or trip away, we ask that you plan accordingly for this as we would prefer for you NOT use any make up in the treated area while healing. Aftercare involves lightly cleansing the area and applying the provided ointment that is included in your after care kit. Further to this, swimming, wetting your brows and/or heavy sweating is not permitted during the healing period.
  • How is Color chosen?
Shannon Norwood is a 26 year licensed Cosmetologist that specialized in chemical services and has applied everything she knows to her permanent makeup career. She has also undergone in-depth training in color theory for Cosmetic Tattooing with over 1500 clients in her permanent makeup career which makes her an expert in this field. WE DO NOT OFFER JET BLACK EYEBROWS. Each client receives a customized pigment selection based on his or her natural brow hair color, skin undertones & overtones, and the client's overall desired look. Your skin type and hair color will help guide this process along with other specific factors that are taken into consideration so modifications can be made to ensure the best healed results. Multiple shades are chosen to help determine the best shade for each client. We also mix colors to find the perfect match specifically for you.
  • If I am Pregnant or Breastfeeding can I get a Cosmetic Tattoo?
No, you cannot, but once you are no longer pregnant, and / or breast feeding you can receive your permanent make-up procedure of choice. We want what's best for both mommy & baby, and we would prefer to NOT inject any foreign unnecessary substances into your body which may cause adverse reaction to your little one.
  • How long will my Tattoo last?
Results are varied on each individual's skin type, how your body heals, the technique used; Microblading VS Microshaded Ombre' Powder Brows, lifestyle choices and our individual bodies' responses, all effect the long-term outcome. Cosmetic Tattooing is not an exact science, but typically last between 1-3 years, depending on the area treated and technique used. For example, Ombre' Powder Brows will last longer than Microblading, so this procedure is a great option for active people who workout a lot or have oily type skin.
  • Why do a need a touch-up in 6-8 weeks?
After 6-8 weeks, the color on your new Cosmetic Tattoo will heal anywhere from 30%-50%. On your 6-8 week touch-up is where we make sure your procedure has healed properly, fine tune and perfect any areas that have faded too much, and make color adjustments. For this reason it is important that you make & keep this appointment to maximize the appearance and longevity of your procedure. If we feel you DO NOT need a touch up once you arrive to your appointment, your deposit will be returned.
  • How long before I need an Annual Color Retouch?
Booking an annual color retouch is a personal preference. We offer 2 options for annual touch ups; 12-18 month and 2-3 year annual touch up. If your shape is still present, then we can give you an annual touch up. If you book 3 years after your initial appointment with Blush Browz & Lashes, you are considered a full treatment again.
  • How long will my appointment take?
All Permanent Makeup Initial appointments are 3 - 3.5 hours. Once you arrive to your appointment, we will walk you through filling out the consultation form, and obtaining your medical history. Step 2 is before pictures & videos and then we map out the new brow design, lip couture, or eyeliner enhancement. Once you are happy and approve the pre-drawn design, color selection is chosen based on your complexion, undertone, and natural brow hair color. Once the tattoo is completed, Shannon will then spend time thoroughly educating you on aftercare.
  • What if I've had a previous Tattoo / Cosmetic Tattoo done elsewhere?
Shannon is the queen of cover ups! About 50% of our business is correcting previously botched brows. We only accept previous Cosmetic Tattoos done elsewhere with caution and may refer you for removal first if we feel this is needed prior to offering our services. You must book a consultation prior to booking an appointment. Disclosing ALL information is extremely important in the event that there is anything that may affect your suitability for this procedure. If you have had you eyebrows previously tattooed at a Tattoo shop / Body Art facility with tattoo ink (NOT pigment), you WILL need to contact Shannon for an in person consultation first. Tattoo removals are no longer offered at Blush Browz. We refer all clients who are in need of removal to a suggested partner Dermatology company. Please contact us to discuss further.
